...Before? I could always control it. Well...right after it appeared. Stands are like that, I think. Even if you're surprised by them, you learn to innately use it the way it should be used.

Abilities tend to develop in kids. Learning to actually control them is a whole... Thing.

Stands can be passed down in families, but its especially rare. The most common way I've heard is through experiencing a phenomenon. A "miracle", you would say. There's a place in the desert where people can die, but those who survive...well.

[She shakes her head.]

To have a child deal with abilities they can't control...what difficult a thing that must be.

Yeah, well. It is what it is.

No miracles or anything, but sometimes it's genetic. Other times seems totally random.

...Do they have anything in place to help those kids learn how to deal with their abilities, or what?

There's the AM.

But they're up to just as much shady shit as they are helpful stuff, so it's kind of a gamble. You might get the help you need or depending on how interesting they think your ability is, you might get locked up and experimented on.

And what kind of government agency wouldn't want to look into ways to create and weaponize that kind of power?
