For some reason, I just have the urge to tell stories tonight.
[also, he has a rose tattoo on his hand. just unrelated.]
Hmm, let me think of a good one. [tapping his jaw.] Well, one of the group I travel with, she was cursed? She had a family and kids, but she was taken from them and she was transformed into another creature. A goblin, which is okay if you want that but in this case it wasn't working out so well.
We'd figured out that this curse was put on her by a fortune teller in the woods. And weirdly enough this fortune teller had also cursed another friend's family, too, but that's sort of beside the point. Anyway, we traveled to the fortune teller to see what we could do about getting the curse lifted. It turned out this woman was a hag. Have you ever met a hag? It's not the...ideal. It's not very good.
Anyway, she wanted us to make a trade for our friend. She had us each go in and offer something. It started getting pretty dark. One of us offered to be alone for the rest of her life, and another of us offered to restart a war. It was getting to the point where we obviously just had to kill her or something before any of them made some really bad life decisions. She only wanted to cause pain - it didn't matter what we offered, the point was something that would be as terrible and painful as the curse she already had was. And that curse was keeping a mother from being with her son, so it was causing a lot of misery.
But then another of us went in and she ... tricked the hag into eating a cursed cupcake somehow, and then changed her memories so she'd think she'd agreed to lift the curse just because she'd liked having us as guests so much and had a lot of fun hanging out. And against all odds - and I would say the odds were very low - that worked.
Anyway, I don't know why I thought about that. But I do think there's a time and place for just killing someone.

[She sips her tea.]
I can agree with that. Good story. Liked the part about the cupcake.
